When I arrived at Bondi the surf looked a bit big. So I chickened out and went to the Bondi Icebergs pool - "Home of Winter Swimming". It is a tidal pool and is actually colder than the ocean at 15 ºC. Further they occasionaly throw in some ice blocks to make it colder.
The odd wave would come over the side of the pool to make things more interesting. Anyway when I got out there was the luxury of a hot shower, well at least it felt hot but it was probably luke warm.
Then I sat down to watch the other swimmers do their laps and noticed a swimmer motoring through the surf. When he was past the waves he turned, came back and suicidaly caught a wave onto the stairs at the side of the pool. When he climbed the stairs I noticed he was about 80.
On the way out I purchased one of their swim caps as a souveneir - it was twice as thick as the regular silicon caps.
